By Daniel Whitehouse

Let's take a walk through 35 handwriting styles —with pen collection from Dayspring Pens — that will inspire your own writing journey. In this list of handwriting examples, the first writing style will both surprise and — I hope — inspire you.

1. Meghan Markle’s Handwriting Style

You may be surprised to learn that Meghan Markle is quite the dab hand at calligraphy. Not just an actress, and married to a British Prince, she also has creative flair when it comes to writing letters. In the below letter she is remarking on her guest editorship of the September issue of British Vogue.

How did she get her gorgeous writing talent? Before she became a successful actor, she supported herself by crafting invitations for Robin Thicke, Dolce & Gabbana, amongst others. (1)

2. Architect-Style Handwriting on Grid Paper

Calm. Smooth. Thin, yet precise. Just how does he get those angles into each letter? Yes, you guessed it. Writing on grid paper can help with the cadence of your letter spacing. Note how the starting 'N' is twice the height as every other letter that follows. This instantly creates a sense of balance from the beginning of the phrase "Now is the ...".

You can get the same pen style with a Cross Calais Rollerball Pen (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 18 reviews).

3. Futuristic Handwriting Style

It’s moving day. Everything’s packed up and you’re ready to go. But you live on the 6th floor so you’ll probably tie up the elevators all day. Imagine how easily a quick note can calm your neighbors?

This thoughtful note was written with a blue gel pen, namely the Waterloo Blue Parker Jotter. The gel ink has a smoother, more even flow than a ballpoint or fountain so you can achieve this same look.

I was born in 77’ a male, and always use cursive as that’s how I was taught to write in grade school, always been told I have pretty handwriting, although I don’t think I do anymore, I do write daily detailed service tickets, some customers actually couldn’t read cursive, wow…

I’ve had employers ask me to print, seems a lot of people do print now days, I always refused as printing actually hurts my hand, I work with my hands and arthritis doesn’t agree with printing, besides my handwriting is perfectly ledgable.

I was looking up handwriting methods and pens in search of hopefully improving on my writing skills as I feel they have slacked as I have aged.

Some real nice handwriting on this page, not sure I could duplicate any of them, I’ll start with a good pen and go from there.

✌️ 💕 😊 To all, doesn’t the world need more right now.

God bless from Tn.

I am so thankful to have come across this! My once beautiful handwriting combined with my impatience – has only produced what could be interpreted as shorthand.
I never knew shorthand but I’m old enough to remember it!
I can remember well the different – yet elegant – cursive handwriting of my mother and grandmother.
And IF I can recreate my own unique (and legible!) style, maybe one day my grandchildren will have their own memories of my handwriting.

I was in 7th grade inn 1959. Every kid wrote cursive script. How, I do not remember, but I decided to write all block upper case letters with, since the teachers seemed to hve thing about capitalization, caps just bigger. I was a straight A student ad the wimpiest boy you would ever see outside the funnies page of your local newspaper. The teacher apparently did not know what to do. As an A student he apparently decided not to try to flunk me. So he THREATENED me tha while I might get away with it in school I would never be able to keep up in college. He was a large man: a lacrosse coach. I cowered in my little student desk. Finally he took his body away and I have kept writing all block upper case letters now for over 60 years, including graduating Yale summa cum laude along the way. I will never understand what his problem with himself was. But there was a problem: my writing could no longer be graded. The teacher can’t take off points for an undotted ‘i’ when ‘I’ has no dot. It was the only thing in my life whre I was not doing something I was being told what to do by the adults. So it gave me a tiny bit of feeling I was an individual person with a little bit of agency. Had the teacher beat me back into curcive writing I probalby would never have had any sense of self worth or hope for the rest of my life: Passum sub iugum. As for writing speed, they never taught us kids shorthand. Mine may be a unique case, but I feet I have a right to life, too. I wan’t hurting anybody, but I was assserting individual initiative which I guess the adults could not handle. They wanted “A” students. I got A’s but did not want to be graded at all. So, for me, handwriing was a really “big thing”. Whenever I write anything by hand, I always think that it’s something I desiged myself, not just doing something other people conditioned the child I was to be. I also did not plesae the teachers by doing all my math assignments in indelible ink. I do not like to write with a pencil. These days I use a Cross classic ballpoint pen — same as the one the man at the top of this page is using.
